the species was removed from Pipistrellus and placed into the monotypic genus Parastrellus by Hoofer et al., 2006.

it was observed in 2001 within a mineshaft in Prospect Pits area by J.D. Johnson (UTEP), netted during 2001 at Echo Spring by J. Mueller, and observed there on 1 May 2015 by V. Mata-Silva (UTEP) [Photo].
